Club Requirements

In addition to paying annual club dues, BMVFSC also has requirements associated with fundraising, ice monitoring, and volunteering. As a volunteer led and run, nonprofit club, BMVFSC would fail without the full efforts of its' members! Requirements associated with each category are as follows.

Membership Dues

Membership dues help pay non-ice related costs incurred by the club; practice ice time and coaching fees are contracted on a quarterly basis and at additional cost.
Annual dues for the the most commonly used membership levels are:

  • Junior Club: $60
  • Senior Club: $140 (First year is discounted to $70).
  • Collegiate: $150 (4 year membership)
  • Associate: $50

Families with more than one skating member of the club receive a discount on their annual dues.

Fundraising

Annual fundraising requirements vary depending on the membership level for the skater. In families with multiple skaters, the family is responsible for the total fundraising amount associated with each skater's membership level and activity.

The requirements are as follows:

  • Junior Club: $100 (requirement waived for first fiscal year).
  • Senior Club: $200
  • Team Velocity: $100
Families not fulfilling their fundraising requirement must make up the difference, up to the full fundraising requirement, to remain in good standing with the Club.

Note: Funds raised in excess of the requirement during a fiscal year are returned to your skaters BMVFSC skater account at 70%.

The money in these accounts can be used to cover contract and membership fees with the club. Learn more about skater accounts here:

BMVFSC Family Skater Accounts

Fundraising is possible year-round through RaiseRight (scrip) and through participation during various fundraisers and fundraising events throughout the year. The Club will share information regarding these opportunities with skaters and families as they arise.

Monitoring

For the safety of our skaters, each block of ice time must feature a monitor or a Club Professional present at all times. Any sessions that do not have monitor present and no Club Professionals are automatically cancelled without refund issued. Monitors are responsible for checking skaters in to a session, supporting Club Professionals and skaters on the ice, and providing support in case of injury. The club uses a signup form available on the website to organize monitor coverage.

Monitoring requirements are per family, not per skater (for example, a family with two senior club skaters does not have double the monitoring requirement compared to a family with one senior club skater). Monitoring opportunities exist for all Junior and Senior Club ice sessions.

Monitoring requirements are listed in each contract but typically are as follows during the school year:

  • Junior Club: no monitoring requirement unless buying on for additional ice time beyond the junior club session. Families buying on for additional ice time are required to monitor two (2) sessions.
  • Senior Club: four (4) sessions per contract.
Penalties associated with monitoring include:
  • Failure to meet the requirement results in a $75 fee at the end of the contract period.
  • Signing up for, and failing to attend a monitoring session (without prior notification to the Board or Club Professionals) results in a $25 fee.
If you attend a session and notice there is no monitor, you can step in and receive credit for monitoring that session (even if you did not sign up online ahead of time).

Volunteering

All families are responsible for volunteering a minimum of 10 hours per year. This is typically accomplished by volunteering for the Club's larger annual events, Autumn Skate Fest in the fall, and Impressions on Ice in the spring, though other opportunities (i.e., volunteering at test sessions) may be available during the year.

Note the following DO NOT count toward volunteer hours:

  • Ice monitoring
  • Working at fundraising events (i.e., fundraising event at Von Hansen's)
  • Preparing for/Walking in the Burnsville Fire Muster Parade
Volunteer opportunities will be publicized by the club ahead of time and typically utilize a signup system to manage opportunities and track the time volunteered by each family. Depending on the task, volunteering may be done by the skater or the skaters' parents, though some roles require that the volunteer be over 18 and/or SkateSafe certified.

Policies & Bylaws

BMVFSC is governed by a set of bylaws that are formally approved by the Board and voting members of the Club. The club maintains a set of policies pursuant to those bylaws that specify contractual requirements, conduct policies, and other information setting out the expectations for the Skaters, Families, Professional Staff, and Board of Directors.
